Transport policy-makers in the UK are not using information and communication technologies (ICT) strategically in transport policy - so says this report from Forum for the Future.
The report says that a sustainable approach to transport policy would set travel demand reduction as a target and use ICT to help achieve it. Yet at present transport demand reduction using ICT is not being used widely in transport policy-making in the UK.
In the report Forum for the Future calls for:
- The Department for Transport to publish a supplement to the Transport White Paper on ICT and travel demand reduction;
- Westminster government departments to lead by example and use ICT to reduce their own travel
- Further support for research to build the evidence base for how ICT can be used strategically in transport policy,
- A new approach from government on transport policy, which includes ICT and other innovative solutions
- The ICT sector to engage more proactively with government on these issues.
