Getting to the shops

Kris doesn't, as a rule, really enjoy shopping, which is why the Shop&Drop has been such a bonus. Today, however, he wants to buy something special for Rebecca's birthday and is actually looking forward to poking about in the small shops in town to find something special. She's been talking about getting a new storage chest for their bedroom, and he's confident he'll find something in one of the arcades where local craftsmen sell their goods.

He's got the twins with him, so decided to use a car rather than take the tram - it'll be a bit easier to manage the home journey with both of them and (hopefully) a bulky item in tow. Like most people, he finds it convenient and economical to use CarShare. And today, as a treat to himself, he's chosen something that's more fun to drive. This latest generation electric vehicle may not have the sleek styling of his old two-seat Tesla sports car, but the torque, range and top speed are better, and all in an attractive family-sized package.

A swipe of his CarShare membership card over the sensor unlocks the vehicle and his credit appears on the window display. There's plenty left so he straps the children in the back and inserts the card in the dash to bring up the touchscreen menu. He selects his own driving profile, and feels the seat adjust as the computer brings his mirrors, steering wheel and electronic dashboard into his personal configuration.

Rebecca probably wouldn't like it, but Kris decides to put the car in the harder-riding, faster-response sport setting today - it's not far to the central shopping area, but there will still be an opportunity to give the car a bit of a burn. His music collection has also been loaded and he chooses a bit of classic rock to suit his mood as he pulls away from the curb, grinning as the opening riff of "Life in the fast lane" surrounds them.
