Office life

Terry is a PA so he needs to be in the office most of the time. He finds this a bit annoying as many of his friends, even though they're all working for different companies, choose to work at the same telehub rather than at the one nearest to their homes, meaning they can spend time together. He feels like he's missing out on an important aspect of his social life.

That said, the office isn't a bad place to be in - far from it. It's quieter and cooler than it used to be as there aren't any heavy old-style PCs fanning out hot air, just small and efficient 'thin clients' whose processing power and capacity is held centrally in low carbon server farms.

The office building uses natural light and ventilation as much as possible, and the HR department has just launched a 'seasonal working' programme, which means he can arrive late and leave early throughout the winter, make up the time in the summer when the building doesn't need to be heated or lit, and receive a proportion of the money saved in his paypacket as a bonus.
