At the night club

Zed is making his final preparations ahead of tonight's club opening. It should be an amazing night. The virtual windows covering all of the walls are working perfectly, and the link to the Kiev Superclub has been tested and tweaked to optimise the experience.

When The Oneiroi headline there later, Zed's revellers will literally be in the middle of the action. In fact, they'll also be providing much of the power for the club through their kinetica systems, so he's hoping the set will kick off with a high energy number.

BeeBees is on three floors of The Power Station - the building operating the community meso-power generation schemes. Looking up as he exits the club, Zed watches the blades of the turbine dip down towards him and arc away again as they convert the wind energy to electricity. It's a beautiful and mesmeric sight, particularly appreciated by his customers judging by the number that can usually be found lying out here staring up at the stars. They'll look even more spectacular with the shifting projected lightshow planned for this evening.

The relationship between technology and nature, old and new, traditional and futuristic in his world of contrasts never fails to astound Zed. The wind to power idea is awesome on its own when he thinks about it, but what's really got him thinking this time is the curtain of lush greenery cascading down the walls of the modern Power Station.

In another time it might have been thought that the building was overgrown, but here the green walls and roof have been deliberately planted and maintained to provide insulation, food and visual amenity to the community.

Even more staggering is the contrast between the organic green and the banks of community batteries in the ground-source cooled chambers beneath his feet. These store all of the excess energy generated by the community renewable power schemes for times when generating conditions drop. They always have some degree of baseload power from their geothermal, but it doesn't hurt to have the additional battery capacity as well. All in all, it's a pretty amazingly mind-blowing world.
