The Virtual Window is a video-link so good that it feels real.

By 2022 video conferencing technology will be a great deal better than it is today. Large high quality video-screens will show images that appear as real. 3-D images may even be possible. This will make much business travel effectively pointless, as a face-to-face meeting will be just as easy and productive using virtual windows, but much quicker and cheaper and without the hassle of travelling. Virtual windows will be the focal points of meeting rooms in offices as well as in telehubs, but they will also be cheap enough to buy and keep in the average home, doubling as computer displays and home cinema systems. Home-based virtual windows will make working from home a lot easier, more effective and more pleasant and so reduce commuting traffic. They will also help people keep in touch with friends and relatives living far away.

Portable versions will also be available and any Virtual Window will be connected wirelessly to home or office computers and screens.

Why is this a low carbon product?

Effective as-real video links have the potential to significantly reduce commuting and business travel, and so reduce the amount of greenhouse gases released as a result. Using virtual windows will improve people's quality of life at the same time, by saving time, saving the hassle of travelling and keeping people in touch with far-away family, friends and colleagues.
