Low carbon lifestyles could lead to stronger communities.
With more intelligent high density housing, such as Reef living, local communities will be able to support more amenities. This means more activity, more bustle and more vibrancy for local areas.
If more people work at home for more of the time, they'll not only cut the stressful, high-carbon commute, they'll be spending more time in their local communities, spending more money in the local area, and be able to get more involved in local activities. They'll also have more time to spend with family and friends.
There are many opportunities for communities to get together and share energy generation and storage facilities, such as wind turbines, ground-source heat pumps or large community batteries. Examples already abound of how communities have become stronger through their attempts to become carbon neutral.
We are also likely to see more and more local share schemes such as our Locality concept, similar to existing freeshare activities, as well as increasing focus on local transport initiatives and local food production, all of which could be powerful forces to shape stronger local communities in the future.
