The Benefits of Low Carbon Living

Why low carbon?
We urgently need to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases we produce if we want to avoid the worst effects of climate change.

The UK has binding targets to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 26 - 32% by 2020 (compared to 1990 levels). This sets us firmly on course to de-carbonise our economy, but many observers believe that this is not enough and that nothing less than a 90% cut by 2030 will do.

How will we achieve this? Regulation will clearly play a role and action from business and the public sector is vital. Our lifestyles will also change. And in fact many of the changes could improve our quality of life, from better transport systems to healthier food, closer communities to a more pleasant local environment.
