Crisp makers launch world’s first carbon label
Tesco grabbed the headlines with its plans to display carbon counts on all its products. But you’ll actually finds the world’s first carbon label on a packet of Walkers crisps. Developed with the Carbon Trust and introduced in March, the label details the carbon dioxide emitted in the lifetime of the crisps, from growing the potatoes and sunflowers through to the disposal of the empty packets. Consumers now learn that it comes out at 75g for a 34.5g pack - though your average crisp eater may not yet grasp whether that’s a heavy price to pay or not. - Hannah Bullock
