We like lists. And we like most things green. So the publication today of the The Guardian's Green List has been a great start to our week. The 32-page supplement shows the direct and indirect emissions of the FTSE 100 companies (where these are publicly available), the social costs of these emissions and whether or not the companies have a published carbon dioxide reduction policy.

We've been working with the Guardian in the last few months to collate this data, and have contributed our analysis of the 10 largest companies in the world.

Robert May's Comment on "Science Show" 1/12/07 in Australia

Robert May made the comment, it may have been in his Presidential address of 2005, I'm not sure, that the world must combine(if it is to survive):

(a) the values and virtues of the Enlightenment project of the 18th century; and
(b) some centre of values that are unquestioned and possess a full legitimacy and authority.

Has anyone got any ideas here of how this will be attained? I think May is onto something that I have not heard discussed or even mentioned in this ongoing, seemingly endless and new debate of our millennial world, adebate about our survival. -RonPrice, Tasmania
